UK Debuting at number 3 on sales of 34,769, E=MC² is Mariah Carey's highest charting album since 1997, when Butterfly fluttered to number two on first week sales of 28,758. The new album - from which introductory single Touch My Body reached number five last week - is Carey's third Def Jam effort, following 2002's Charmbracelet, which reached number 52, and 2005's The Emancipation Of Mimi. Despite Charmbracelet's low peak, it has sold 122,010, easily beating disastrous predecessor, Glitter, Carey's only (2001) Virgin album, which reached number 10 but has sold only 54,645 copies. The Emancipation Of Mimi has sold 621,352 copies.
South KoreaE=MC² is #1 on Hanteo's International Album chart for South Korea. Both album versions combined (regular + deluxe version) sold 1,693 copies in the debut week. The Emancipation of Mimi sold 10,343 for the month in South Korea, debuting at #3 on the monthly international chart.
